Joint initiative with Akshaya Patra & Huawei will reach 10 million meals by December 2017

New Delhi, 29 August, 2017: Snapdeal Sunshine, a CSR initiative run by Snapdeal, India’s leading ecommerce marketplace,  in a joint partnership with Akshaya Patra and Huawei today announced the successful contribution towards 5 million mid-day meals, as part of its monthly #OneMillionMeals campaign to eradicate classroom hunger in India.

The campaign that was launched in March 2017 aims at providing hygienically cooked, nutritional mid-day meals to children attending government schools across the country.  As part of the campaign, Snapdeal invited its customers to contribute to the cause by donating daal (pulses) at Rs. 300/- for 200 mid-day meals. Customers  can choose to contribute daal for as many meals starting from a minimum of 200 meals going up to 40,000 meals. The contributed daal is directly routed to Akshaya Patra, a not for profit organization that runs the world’s largest NGO-run mid-day meal program. The donated daal is then prepared along with government supplied rice & wheat for supply in schools.

Huawei’s support has doubled the impact of the initiative, as it makes an equally matched contribution to Akshaya Patra, for every donation made on the Snapdeal platform.

Snapdeal estimates that by December the donations will cross the 10 million mark.
